Setting the Highest Standard in Flight Training

Carl S. Flemons, Wheelchair Private Pilot – Former President (Retired) – Paralyzed Veterans of America

It has been over 10 years since I completed my wheelchair Private Pilot training with American Air Flight Training at DeKalb-Peachtree Airport. The time I spent flying with American Air is the single most satisfying experience of my life. Getting through college with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and Instrumentation Science and a minor in Physics was tough for me. Comprehending the principles of flight in ground school was made easier with the excellent, in-depth training I received at American Air.

The satisfaction of having confidence in my own ability as a wheelchair pilot and in the excellent condition of the airplane I was flying is enormous. American Air’s airplanes are expertly maintained and I would fly my friends in them anywhere. I flew a friend to Sioux Falls, SD and back and it was the most wonderful, memorable flight I have made. The level of instruction at American Air is first class. Their patience in working with me in their wheelchair pilot program helped me achieve the highest proficiency possible. Their standards of training not only resulted in a high level of safety, but in the more efficient use of the aircraft. To a prospective student, I have two things to say about flying – You can completely trust Steve Shaner as an excellent instructor and flying can be the most satisfying thing you have ever done. I truly appreciate the time I spent with Steve Shaner at American Air. Thank you, I look forward to my next flight.
